Kids Crafts at Christmas

(This post is part of my Frosty Festivities Blog Event)

I love crafting with my kids at Christmas. My daughter always makes some cards, and there will be some baking involved at some point, plus each year we make some decorations.

This year so far we've made these Peg Doll Angels:

I got the idea and tutorial from here. We jazzed ours up a bit, making the dresses out of white felt, which my daughter drew on and stuck sequins all over. She also drew on the faces and hair, and helped me cut the feathers. Then I wound on the halos and glued all the bits together using a hot glue gun.

I haven't decided yet if we're going to hang them as decorations or leave them as dolls. My daughter wants to give one each to her two best friends, so we'll only be keeping one of them:

I've just realised one of the angels has a wonky halo in the photo, and it's the one with the slight smirk. I think she's been at the sherry!

My daughter has also painted a snowflake window decoration that we got from HobbyCraft, she was concentrating on it very well:

And I know we'll be making our usual Reindeer - we draw around feet for the head and hands for the antlers, so each year the reindeer grow as my kids do! Eventually we'll have a whole gallery of them, but this photo is from the first year we did it, using my hands and feet and my daughter's:

They look very cute lined up on our wall each year!

Be Inspired:
  • Use feathers on your next winter project
  • Make a window decoration
  • Use your hands as a template for something, or do some finger painting!

Don't forget that a comment on this post, or on any of my posts from this weekend, will count as an entry into the Grand Giveaway {NOW CLOSED} - but only if you've registered your interest in winning that here!

Have you ever done any crafting with kids at Christmas time? Any tips for what we can make next?

See you again soon - sorry the posts are running half an hour behind - I'm trying to catch up on finishing them off! x

Love these! lol at the tipsy angel!

I add to our decorations each year with something I've made, and usually the children have done so too - less so now they're getting older, sadly. I've got the papers and instructions to make some origami decorations with The Tomboy this year, though :)

Love the hand-and-footprint reindeer, we've done that! Handprints are also good for making wreaths - if you're brave, use actual handprints in green paint for leaves and finger and thumbprints in red for berries :)

Peg dolls - wow that brings back so many memories from my childhood, we used to dress them up in all kinds of things and I'm sure my Nanna used to knit/crochet things for them to wear too!!!

Those reindeer are great - what a fab idea and I like your 'been at the sherry' angel too, such character LOL!!

I miss it now that my niece's and nephew's are all grown up - I use to love having Auntie crafty sessions for them in the run up to Christmas

I remember making reindeer similar to yours with my children. We used painty hand and feet prints instead of drawing round them. Lots of fun :o)

These look great fun...I loved crafting with my kids when they were younger. We even made our own Chistmas crackers.

Sadly my kids are a bit too old for that now a days - but I'd love to start some new traditions with them.

Ha, these are cute, especially miss tipsy angel.
In my experience, paper garlands are always a hit with kids. I like making angels, snowmen and reindeer, but with older children you can also make more complex things such as snowflakes.
(This is the type of garland I mean: instructions

for some reason I am a bit freaked out by feathers in crafting though I'm not sure why lol! I think that might just be me though I would love the angels with doily wings!! Wish I had done the yearly reindeers we certainly have at least one!

The peg angels are cute! My granddaughters love to craft and as the family are here for Christmas we shall be having lots of fun making crackers, decorations and hats etc. One of the things they enjoy making are snow flakes cut out of folded card. They usually stick them all over the window, they look very festive from the outside.

Always looking for fun easy crafts to do with my daughter! We've made the usual paper chain garlands, and also paper plate wreaths cutting out the center and decorating them with crepe paper.

Cute angels :-) I did the hand and foot reindeer with my son 2 years ago but never got around to it last year. Maybe I should make it a 2-yearly thing :-)

My grandson is just 10 months old, but I already have a file of projects to do with him as soon as he's old enough! Glad to add these to the file.
