(I apologise for this post being a little late, apparently I'm not organised enough this afternoon!)
I'm going to admit straight away that I haven't used this rota very much so far, but I devised the schedule at the beginning of the year, and I keep coming back to try it. And even though I haven't been sticking to the plan exactly, I have noticed it's had an impact on my life anyway!
I came up with this schedule and chore rota to try and divide my time more evenly. I often feel guilty that I should be doing housework when I'm crafting, or spending time with my hubby instead of blogging. So I thought if I had it all planned out a little, I could try and stick to it, and feel like I was giving each aspect of my life its fair share:
(Sorry the writing done with a whiteboard marker is a bit blurry, I couldn't get a photograph of it without the glare on the glass making it look a little strange!)
I made the chore chart by buying a cheap frame from Wilkinsons (which I think is a bit like Target for those across the pond), and I cut and placed different paper scraps all around the border - I just stuck them straight to the paper that came in the frame:
I created the chart in Microsoft Publisher, and printed it onto A3 paper to put into the frame. At the top of the chart there are plans for each day of the week, including chores and fun stuff:
And I can write on top of the glass with a whiteboard marker to tick things that are complete, or make notes on what I still have to get done.
The bottom of the chart has a space for a 'task of the week' that will change each week, and some stars which I can fill out to show the good things we've done that week, and make us feel like we've achieved stuff even if the housework hasn't all been perfectly finished off:
(sorry again about the blurry writing!).
So far the only thing I've really stuck to each week is that Monday is now Laundry day. Now there are four of us in the house we have so much laundry all the time, and it's really nice to get the majority of it all done on one day instead of it being spread out throughout the week.
Otherwise things still get done on random days, but I have noticed that they get done a lot more often, and that I tidy as I go a lot better than I used to. So it's obviously seeping into my way of life somehow!
I planned out my rota by looking at a few other people's rotas, and then tailoring it to suit me. A few I looked at are this one, this one, and this one.
Do you have a chore rota you stick to?

Must admit I don't have a rota....the only chore done on a regular day each week is the ironing....and I probably prefer doing the laundry a few days a week, rather than trying to do it all on one day.....but I think we all need what works best for us.
I do certain things on certain days to help keep a routine! Which reminds me better go check the laundry!
I used to have a rota on the kitchen wall when my boys still lived at home - but most of the time it was ignored by everyone except me! One thing I have noticed for sure is that I seem to fit less in now than I did when I had two kids to look after, a bigger house and 3 part time jobs on the go - I guess I must have slowed down without realising it...
I have made a few of these but I am not very good at sticking to them! I guess I am not actually very good at routines :) I love the idea of one laundry day so you are not constantly doing it but as I have blazers and school jumpers I have to do some washing on a weekend :( Also love the idea of using the frame and whiteboard marker!
I keep a pad of scratch paper handy and anything I think of that I need to do goes on it. I then can cross out things as I do them. I do one load of laundry daily so that it doesn't seem to take up all my time.
Jennifer,
The more I see of what you do (organization-wise), the more amazed I become!
I do not have a rota at all!

I don't have a list of chores that I do on a set basis but you know, I really should. I think I am going to start working on something like this.
I do have a weekly list, but it is not as spify as yours. I get SO much more done when I write them down! I love little check marks.

Great idea to have the chores on view. I would like to be a bit more organised I guess i am half way there by knowing that on my days off, cleaning is the first thing I do so I have the rest of the day to 'play'!It's just a shame that I don't always have enough days off in the week to do the 'fun' stuff :(
Oh, I love this chore chart! After reading about it somewhere online, I recently started making a list of 5 things to do, only 5, each morning and it has helped a lot!
I need a chore chart, but we don't have kids so it is only me usually doing all the chores. Husband is in charge of laundry and vacuuming though! :)
wow-you are really organized! I do make lists every day of what I want to accomplish-the trick is doing what I have written down! sometimes the day goes well, other days not so much!
I love your idea. I don't organise a chore chart but would love to use that idea for a meal planner.
Fun chore chart!
I have a weekly routine that has worked well for me the past few years - Mondays (laundry & paperwork), Tuesdays (errands), Wednesdays (house cleaning), Thursdays (Bible Study & crafting), Fridays (my choice!). I have a time for crafting most days if I keep to this schedule.
I used to have a chore chart but I got out of the habit of using it. Think it might be time to reintroduce that idea!
I used to have a rota (in my head) but seeing this I think I may have to formalise things now that my boys are both back from uni and my daughter's finished her GCSEs - I can't face a summer of "asking" for help - I may just say that they have to tick of a chore every day and I'll do the rest!
I love to make charts of chores and things to do, and I have a whole section in Pinterest of everyone else's idea. But it hasn't been working too well because I haven't made one lately. One thing I will be doing though is planning downtime or scrapbook time into my schedule so I don't feel guilty when I want to go into my scraproom!
Totally stealing this idea. I really try and get all my laundry done in one or 2 goes over the week. That way I only have to do one lot of putting away.
